Bronntanas lights a spark that encourages families to use Irish naturally at home.
Bronntanas is a celebration of the possibilities that the Irish language creates for families. What makes Bronntanas different is that it doesn’t just focus on entertaining children. It creates a spark that brings families who don’t regularly stick to Irish together, so that the language is used naturally. As a result, new habits are formed that last long after the festival.
The festival began in 2025 and was very popular with over 1,000+ participants engaging with over 30 events. As part of the Festival, 500+ families had the chance to sign up for Bronntanas Beo, a 21-day family challenge that encourages families to make a daily habit of speaking Irish.
Founded by South Dublin County Council, Bronntanas is run throughout the county in collaboration with four local authorities in Dublin, with Glór na nGael and with support from Teanga Tí.
